Subsurface utility locating · inspection · mapping — serving the Tampa Bay area (727) 520-0017

About ATS · Pinellas Park, Florida

Know exactly what’s underground before you dig.

Advanced Technological Systems, Inc. (ATS) is a small, hands-on subsurface utility locating company serving engineers, contractors and municipalities across the Tampa Bay area. We started ATS to offer a smarter, lower-cost alternative to the big utility-locating firms — keeping our overhead lean so we can pass real savings on to our clients without cutting corners in the field.

Our team brings experience on both sides of the job: locating utilities in the field and designing the projects that depend on them. That means we understand what your plans actually need. From electromagnetic and ground-penetrating-radar designating to air-vacuum test holes and CAD-ready mapping, ATS handles every phase of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) — so utility conflicts, redesigns and construction delays get caught on paper, not in the trench.

Why visual verification matters

811 marks are a starting point — not a guarantee.

One-call locate marks show the approximate position of a line, with a tolerance zone of up to two feet on either side. They don’t tell you depth, size or material, and they routinely miss abandoned, private and non-metallic lines. The only way to know for certain is to see the utility.

Mapping existing utilities accurately during design — or before construction starts — prevents costly conflicts, change orders and damaged infrastructure.

Services

Three steps to certainty underground

Every ATS project follows the same proven sequence — from finding a line, to exposing it, to delivering data your design team can build on.

Quality Level B

Utility designating

Using electromagnetic locating equipment, we trace and mark the horizontal position of buried utilities. For lines that can’t be toned — PVC water mains, sanitary laterals, clay and concrete pipe — we add Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to pinpoint the feature precisely.

  • Electromagnetic & GPR equipment
  • Metallic and non-metallic utilities
  • Sewer laterals, PVC and “non-toneable” lines

Quality Level A

Vacuum excavation (test holes)

Our VacMasters air-vacuum system safely removes soil over the target utility, exposing it with minimal disturbance. We confirm the exact horizontal and vertical location, size, material and configuration — in a small footprint that’s quick and inexpensive to restore.

  • Non-destructive, air-pressure excavation
  • Depth, size, material & configuration verified
  • Reference points set: iron rod & cap (soft surface) or nail & disk (hard surface)

Deliverables

Mapping & reporting

Field data is recorded in detailed field reports formatted to your specifications. When you need it, the data can be surveyed and brought into CAD for a digital utility map that drops straight into your plan set.

  • Field reports customized to your criteria
  • Survey & CAD-ready digital mapping
  • FDOT-certified Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) setup

Our mission

We combine state-of-the-art technology with clear, thoughtful communication to deliver solutions that meet — and exceed — our clients’ expectations.
